Know Your Destiny

Friday, May 7th, 2010

I always like reading inspirational writing. One thing people get confused on is they think they can read one book or buy one course and that will be it. They’ve made it. In my view it’s a journey. You will keep learning your whole life so you should keep buying books and courses. Your knowledge will increase but also I think you will slowly come to know yourself. I believe that this will then bring you true happiness. Anyway here are my tips to help you on that road:

1. Do Some Exercise: Every day or at least every other day. I like to start the day with some of Matt Furey’s hindu squats. Basically it’s doing a squat but doing it pretty quickly. It’s like sprinting on the spot. It will get your heart going and you can do it all in less than 5 minutes. I can do 100 in around 2 minutes. I try to do 100 morning and night but start off small and gradually increae each day.

2. Commit to one thing you can do today to make a difference. If you have a job then do something different in your job to make a difference. commit to being nice to people for the whole day. Commit to saying hello to people you haven’t said hello to before at work. Start reading a new self help book. buy a book online on e bay or amazon. get a second hand one and save some money.

3. Develop an imaginary mentor. This could be someone you look up to – a highly regarded sportsman, a successful businessman – Tim Lowe, Andrew Reynolds, Richard Branson, Alan Sugar. Mother Teresa, Nelson Mandela. Anyone who inspires you. Then when you are feeling down imagine what your mentor would say to you. Imagine talking to them and asking them what you should do next.  Explain to them why you can’t do it and think what they would say
with him. Listen to the answers.

4. Visualize the oucome you desire: Create an image on an imaginary movie screen showing the result you desire. If you build the image in your mind the result will come.

5. Take Action: If you want to change your job then dig out your cv and re work it. if you have no cv then create one. If it’s your business make a list of what is wrong and what is right about your business. What needs to change. what help do you need. what will make it better. Just start and once that wheel is moving it’s easier to keep it going.

6. Give yourself a pat on the back.  Celebrate the results as if what you want to happen has already happened. Believe that it will happen and it will.

Until next time

What Is Your Life’s Purpose?

Thursday, April 22nd, 2010

I ask this question since if you don’t know what your life’s purpose is then i think you’re going to struggle to have a successful business. It is worth spending some time thinking about this. here are a few suggestions to help you finding your life’s purpose:
1.Put aside making money: I think you need to know what deep down excites you, makes you want to get up in the morning rather than thinking just about  making money. Not everybody is going to be a millionaire. I don’t think Mother Teresa set out to make a million!

2.Help Others: First and foremost your aim in life should be to help others. If you help others, others will help you. Things will flow to you so you will always have a roof over your head and food in your stomach if you help others.

3.Don’t Quit: I’ll say that again, never quit. Don’t just accept that this is your lot. You can change but you have to keep doing things. And that doesn’t mean sitting in front of the tv or drinking beer or over eating. It means getting off your arse and trying. Trying at anything. it doesn’t matter. mow the lawn, clean your windows. walk down your street and mow your old neighbours lawn. Do something and do it now. read a book. better yourself in some way, any way. You will NEVER make it sitting on your butt dreaming. Nobody is going to come in and give it to you on a plate. You have to go and find the plate and put your own food on it.

4.Write down everything that motivates you – it could be watching football, playing golf, talking to people, making people laugh, writing stories, organizing your family, friends. Reading to people, speaking, politics. Just sit down and write down what you like doing, then pick your top 3.

5.Write down what you believe in: being honest, being reliable, helping others, helping myself, law and order, making a difference. again write down as many as you can then pick your top 3.

6.What are your goals. What would you like to achieve? More money, a better life for your kids, wife, family, making a million dollars next year, helping old people, helping peope who don’t have long to live. Again write as many as you can then pick your top 3. The three that if nothing else mattered those 3 things matter.

From all your lists try to then take away two of them and leave your top 1 thing that you believe in, your number 1 goal and the number 1 thing that motivates you – that makes you want to get up in the morning.

When you’ve done the above you should have a better idea of where you are heading. And remember that can change. this is a journey. you’re just putting the car into gear and starting to drive but you can turn right or left, change direction as things happen but its important to get going on the journey. It’s also important to forget about money. Do what you love and the money will follow.

Hope this helps

Mayonnaise Jar & Two Beers…

When things in your life seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours
in a day are not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar and the 2 Beers.

A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in
front of him. When the class began, he wordlessly picked up a very large
and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls.

He then asked the students if the jar was full.  They agreed that it was.
The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the
jar. He shook the jar lightly.  The pebbles rolled into the open areas
between the golf balls.   He then asked the students again if the jar
was full.  They agreed it was.

The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar.
Of course, the sand filled up everything else.   He asked once more if
the jar was full.  The students responded with a unanimous ‘yes.’

The professor then produced two Beers from under the table and poured
the entire contents into the jar effectively filling the empty space
between the sand.  The students laughed…

‘Now,’ said the professor as the laughter subsided, ‘I want you to recognize
that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the important
things—your family, your children, your health, your friends and your
favourite passions—and if everything else was lost and only they
remained, your life would still be full.

The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house
and your car.  The sand is everything else—the small stuff.  ‘If you
put the sand into the jar first,’ he continued, ‘there is no room for
the pebbles or the golf balls.

The same goes for life.  If you spend all your time and energy on the
small stuff you will never have room for the things that are important
to you.  Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness.

Spend time with your children.

Spend time with your parents.

Visit with grandparents.

Take time to get medical checkups.

Take your spouse out to dinner.

Play another 18.

There will always be time to clean the house and cut the grass.

Take care of the golf balls first—the things that really matter.

Set your priorities.

The rest is just sand.

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the Beer represented.

The professor smiled and said, ‘I’m glad you asked.’  The Beer just shows
you that no matter how full your life may seem, there’s always room for
a couple of Beers with a friend.

It’s Friday! Not Get Rich Now Day

Friday, March 12th, 2010

I’m sure a lot of you out there are jumping for joy because it’s Friday.  No more work for a couple of days.  Then maybe sunday night you get that sinking feeling. Work tomorrow. Some of you may even go as far as dreading going to work on a Monday. You may also feel you are trapped. You need the money to pay your rent and to buy food but you desperately want to do something different but aren’t sure what. You know there has to be a better life out there.

My view is that sometimes you have to accept that it is going to get worse before it gets better. Why? Because you will have to give up your free time to do MORE work to ultimately gain the freedom you so crave. I say this because that’s what I did. The main thing for me was I got up early. I would get up at 5.30am and work for an hour and a half, sometimes 2 hours before I went to work. I would then go to work, get home around 7pm, help bath the kids and put them to bed. Have something to eat and then at least a couple of days a week I would go back upstairs into our little bedroom and do some more work. I was tired all the time. If i had a beer or a glass of wine which I enjoy I would feel even worse the next day. I was grumpy a lot of the time! Did this last forever. No. Did I quit. No. Would I do this again. If I had to, yes.

Sometimes, freedom can only be found by actually giving up what little freedom you have. If anyone tells you its going to be easy, they are not telling you the truth. It will be tough but it will be worth it. Because in the long run you will be doing something you love or at least like to do rather than doing something that you are forced to do.

One little tip. I know this is going to be hard but try to forget about money for a moment. If you could do anything in the world, what would it be. What you love. Not I’d love to be an internet marketeer when deep down you know you are only saying this because you think that it will make you rich. If you don’t love what you are doing it is really difficult to make money at it because you won’t really be fully committed. Do what you really enjoy doing and the money will follow.

Forget about get rich quick schemes, any form of gambling or make money being on somebody else’s downline. Find something you are passionate about, that you would love to talk to someone at a party about even if they found it boring! And then take the first step.

Wishing you all the best for the future

Buying A Business – No Money!

Thursday, August 6th, 2009

i get asked quite a lot how do I get my business going when I have no money.

it’s not as difficult as you think. If you’ve got a great idea but no money why not partner with somebody who has money. There are people out there with lots of money but they don’t know what to do with it. If you’ve got a great idea or even better have come across a great business to buy why not spend some time finding someone who will invest in the business.

You won’t have to look far to find businesses. In the UK look at Dalton’s weekly. There are thousands of businesses for sale and a lot of them are great businesses.

i know what you’re thinking, if they are so great why are people selling them. Well, people get old, they retire. They get divorced and need money fast. They fall out with their business partners. There are lots of reasons. But it doesn’t matter because whatever the reason you can check the figures. If the last three years figures show the business making a healthy profit (audited accounts only) and the figures include a good salary for the owner if he is running the business then why wouldn’t you think about buying it?

It will pay you a salary from day 1. You will ideally persuade the outgoing owner to be around for say 3 to 6 months after you buy so that there is a smooth handover of the business  and you then have a successful profitable business that you can improve on in 6 months or less.

i challenge you to get that from scratch. One thing is for sure starting a business from one of the millions of “get rich quick” schemes being sold is a lot harder. I’ve bought a lot of courses and I think it’s tough to do it on your own.

If you buy the right business and the owner stays around to help train you if necessary and make sure that the customers stay you are not only getting a business but a mentor. If the guy is retiring and has had the business a long time he will be proud of it and he will want it to carry on succeeding. He will have invested his blood, sweat and tears to make it profitable and he’ll want it to be there for many years to come. Find one of these businesses and one of these people and you can do very well.

I know all of this sounds scary but not as scary as losing your job and having no money. There are very few jobs for life. You have to go out there and create your own future.  And even if you’re scared you can still take action. One step at a time and things will start to look a whole lot better

How Do You Create A Product Fast

Tuesday, July 14th, 2009

Here are my top 10 ways to create a product to sell in double quick time:

1. Clickbank

Go to clickbank.com and you will find thousands of books and products that you can sell. I know people get hung up about creating their own product and keeping all the money but that can take time. At clickbank you can find fantastic products to sell. I know what you’re thinking – yeah Tim, but everybody and his dog is selling clickbank products. Yes, but you can do it better and get more of the sales. More importantly it gets you started, gets you some income coming in and gives you time to develop your presence, develop your own products if you want and establish yourself in the market. Go do it now!

2. Public Domain

There are thousands of items in the public domain – music, books, pictures etc that are out of copyright.  This means you can use them without having to pay anyone a royalty or payment of any sort.  You can re package them, re brand as your own and then sell. Perfect! And these products cost you nothing. Just type in public domain into your search box and off you go. Also have a look at gutenberg.org

3. Outsourcing

Go to elance.com or scriptlance.com and hire someone to create a product for you. You can find great writers at bargain prices. You will have people bidding for your work so you can really strike a great deal. They will be professional writers who do this for a living. You can ask to see examples of their work before you buy so you’ll know whether they are good or not. They will deliver a draft so you can check it, amend it, get the writer to change things to make sure you come up with a professional product.

4. Create Your Own Software

Similar to 3 above. If you have an idea could it be turned into a software program. As well as the sites above look at rentacoder.com. Again you will get professional software at a great price with a high perceived value when you sell it.

5. Create A Resource List or Directory

Find a niche and rather than write a book about the niche create a book that is simply packed full of resources for people to find out everything they need to know about a particular niche all in one convenient place

6. Interview Experts

This will take a bit of legwork in that you will have to e mail a lot of people but this is a great way to start. e mail experts in your chosen field and ask to interview them. This can either be on the phone (you can then record it and sell it on cd) or by e mail or in person. Whatever way you do it you will then have fantastic information that people will pay you for. You’ve got to accept that a lot of people will turn you down but its worth the effort because someone will say yes.

7. Re Write Content

Be careful on this one. You cannot under any circumstances copy someone’s product but you can use it to create your own similar but different and hopefully improved product. This could also be linked in with my public domain point above. Take an old public domain product and bring it up to date. Give it a new title and you’ve got a product.

8. Make Your Own Video

Not as scary as it sounds. If you’ve got a decent webcam or video camera you can make your own video. use camtasia studio and you can create your own videos. camtasia also has a screen capture facility so you can record your screen and then talk about it. this makes it really easy to create great content that people will love. You can also then think about sticking this content on dvd and selling those.

9. Create Your Own Membership Site

You can use the methods above to create content for your site. Membership sites are simple to create (elance.com and scriptlance.com to get someone to build one for you) but the great thing about membership sites is the continuing income you will receive

10. Set Up A Webinar

If you can get an expert to “sit in” on your webinar even better but don’t worry too much about that. What you are looking to do is give away free content. This content should be the best you can do. Ideally if you do an hour and there isn’t enough time to cover everything you want you can then do a second or series of webinars. Record them and again you can then sell the series at a later date. If you give people great content hopefully people will start thinking that if your free content is that good then your paid content will be even better. Equally important you’ll be establishing yourself as an expert in your chosen field so people will want to come back to you.

That’s all for now but hope the above helps. Any questions let me know

Until next time

Getting Targeted Traffic With Keyword Research

Monday, June 15th, 2009

It’s not rocket science that if you want your website to be a success you need traffic. People come to your site. They see what you’ve got to sell and hopefully they like what they see and buy it. Simple!

The problem you’ve got is getting that traffic in the first place. The best way is to make sure that your site uses keywords that people are searching for. What do I mean by this? if you’re selling headlights for Triumph motorcycles it is better to use “Triumph headlights” rather than just “headlights” .

And this is my main point. You want targeted traffic. You want people who are searching for Triumph headlights because that’s what you’re selling. If you focus on headlights you are going to get a lot of people who come to your site but immediately hit the back button when they realise that you only sell Triumph headlights. So you go for targeted traffic rather than untargeted traffic. You want people who are specifically searching for Triumph headlights.

So everything about your website should bear this in mind. Articles you write, your products, headings, information about you – the lot.

What you are trying to acheive is for your site to feature high up in the search engine result pages. Put simply, when somebody searches on Google for Triumph headlights your site is one of the first sites that comes up.

That means that targeted traffic comes to your site and that type of traffic is more likely to buy. So how do you acheive this? Research. Use a keyword research tool like those provided by wordtracker or google.

The great thing is you can then test your ideas. Rather than just coming up with a few ideas and leaving it at that. If you use wordtracker you can then check if the words and phrases you are using are actually terms that people are typing into the search engines. wordtracker lets you dig deep into what people are actually typing into their search box. If you can use these terms then it is much more likely that the people who are coming to your site are ready to buy something.

In our example it may be that people are searching for Triumph headlights. But they maybe typing in a specific model “Triumph Bonneville headlight” They may be typing in a specific year “1969 Triumph Bonneville headlight”  You can test and re test and by doing so cover all your bases or change your marketing altogether. There is no point using the same keywords if they are not working hoping things will change. They won’t change. All that happens is somebody else will come in and do what you’re not doing and get the sale.

The follow on is that the more specific you are with your search terms the more likely you are to beat your competition since many of them will not be going to the trouble of doing proper keyword research. You’ll also find that not only can you find out whether or not people are using a particular word or phrase to search but how much competition there is for that word or phrase.

Wordtracker uses what it calls a KEI index which is keyword effectiveness. The higher the KEI the better the phrase.  Wordtracker says a KEI higher than 10  but generally speaking I look for KEI ratings of 35 or higher and I would recommend you do the same.

Then use wordtracker’s competition analysis tool to see if it is a competitive keyword. When you have words and phrases with high KEI values you can then update your site and your copy and your future articles using these words and phrases. You will then hopefully get more targeted traffic.

I’m afraid once you’ve done that it doesn’t stop there. You must continually test and re test looking for better and better words and phrases. This will change over time so you must change over time as well. By doing so your site will remain fresh and the more likely you are to get the traffic you need to succeed.

Until next time

Whatever You Do, Do Something

Monday, June 8th, 2009

I know I keep going on about it but the most important part of becoming successful is to get going. Take action, however, small. Without action ideas are nothing.

And if I had to start over from scratch, what would i do? Easy, I’d start a blog.

Why?

Because its easy, its quick and it’s cheap

When you have finished setting up your blog you have a business! You can communicate to people and that means you can then sell them things that will be useful to them.

I know you’re thinking this is a dead end but it’s not.

Write about what you know or give people your opinions about things. That could be things that you’ve bought – products, courses, anything. You can write about the car you’ve just bought,  your lawn mower, a removals company you’ve used. ANYTHING. People want to know about these things.

How do you think people decide on things to buy these days? They go to their computer and they search for information. Don’t worry about your writing skills. Write how you would talk to a friend. I’m sure most of you can do that.

The important thing is to set it in motion today. don’t waste another moment.
Once you start opportunities to sell products open up very quickly. You can start by including products from places like clickbank on your site related to the topic you are talking about. You’ll get commissions on every product you sell.

You can then think about creating your own products or have people create them for you. The profit opportunity is enormous. When you start creating your own products you can then do deals with other people who are in the same or a similar area to you and get them to sell your products on their sites. You give them at least half of the margin on the sale or more but in return you get more and more people coming to your site and you can then offer them more products.

And all this can come from one simple blog.

Don’t waste another moment. Get started now http://bit.ly/rAtdl

Until next time

Selling E Books Through Your Website

Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009

Selling e books is a good way to get started with your internet business. You don’t actually have to write the e book yourself. Get someone to write it for you if you don’t feel confident enough at this stage. You’re not going to get rich with an e book but it will give you much needed credibility when you’re starting out.

Here are a few other tips that should help you:

1.Choose a subject that you love and preferably an emotive one. If you write about solving someone’s problem even better. If you’ve had that very same problem and now have a solution or cure for that problem you’re on the right lines.

Ok, you say, I get what you’re saying about solving a problem but I don’t know that much. I’m an average guy doing an average job with a wife and two kids and a dog and a secondhand car.

Well, there’s a number of things you can write about straight away – Kids problems, marriage problems, buying a second hand car, training your dog could all be good e book subjects.

I’m not expecting you to know everything about these subjects but you can pick an area you know about, do some research, maybe buy some other e books and then try to write a book that’s better.

You could pick the best bits from 3 or 4 e books, re write them in your own words and then tell everybody how you’ve done extensive research on the subject and you have now created THE guide to have.

2.Do Some Research On What is HOT

You are trying to solve OTHER people’s problems, not necessarily your own problems. You need to write about what other people are interested in and for that reason you need to go to google or wordtracker and do some keyword research. This will show you what other people are searching for.  Remember people buy on emotions. If it’s not emotive enough you won’t sell anything.

You’ll also see when you’re doing research that people tend to be very specific about what they search for. They don’t type in “cars”. They type in specific terms like “best SUV” “Cheap tires” “Cheap insurance”

For that reason focus on one specific area. And solve their problem FAST.

There is no point in saying you will solve their problem in a couple of years. People want you to solve their problem yesterday!

3.Free Information

Why not think about giving something away. Again this will build trust. If you decide to give something away you must put the same amount of effort into the book as if someone were paying for it.

It has to be a quality product that you would pay good money for. If its not, you’ll quickly lose customers and not gain any new ones. If you look at the top marketeers out there they all give away top quality information for free. And that encourages people to come back to them on the basis that if the free stuff is good then the stuff i pay for must be even better.

Hope this helps

until next time
